Live Scan FAQ

Q: What is the Live Scan Background Check and why do I need it?

A: HWLL uses the Live Scan service to complete background checks on all volunteers.

All HWLL volunteers that are working with children at HWLL will be required to complete a Live Scan background check.

Q: Who needs to participate in Live Scan?

A: To protect our players, all volunteers involved with our kids are required to be background-checked. This group includes managers, coaches, team parents, umpires, and any other parents at practices and games that wish to go on the field side of the fence.

Q: How do I complete Live Scan?

A: HWLL has partnered with a Live Scan provider and will be offering this service for one day only. Our Live Scan provider will be at Robinwood fields, next to the snack bar, on Tuesday, May 10, 2022, between the hours of 2:30pm and 7pm. This one-day Live Scan event will be offered at no cost to volunteers, for one day only.

If you cannot make this one-day event, you will be required to find a Live Scan provider yourself and will be required to pay for the service yourself. HWLL will not reimburse you for this out-of-pocket expense. This cost typically ranges from $20-$75 depending on location.

Q: How often do I have to do this?

A: Live Scan requires only one screening process during your entire time in our league, however it gives us real-time information about our volunteers as profiles change. It also provides that information through numerous and far-reaching agencies.

Q: I have done Live Scan before for another license, certification, record review, or job. Why do I have to do it again for HWLL?

A: Each organization is assigned a unique ORI (Originating Agency Identifier) and the background results for the volunteer’s Live Scans are returned to the requesting organization only. Different organizations cannot legally share the applicant’s background information, so HWLL requires a new Live Scan background check.

Q: If I choose to not participate in HWLL’s  Live Scan background check, can I still volunteer for my son or daughter’s season?

A: You can’t. Your ability to volunteer in any capacity is dependent on being on the approved volunteer list.
